Prompt: How does watching the film version of Into the Wild change or deepen your understanding of Chris McCandless compared to reading the book? In your response, explain one key difference in how his character or experiences are presented, and connect this to a time when seeing something visually changed your understanding of a situation.

Gemini said I understood Chris better in the movie when I saw Chris walking in the snowy mountains, it made his loneliness feel real. While the book just shows his family's problems, the film showed his parents emotions, which made this feel like a heartbreaking choice. This reminded me of a moment when I saw a video of a magician performing a trick on live tv. Seeing how fast his hands were made me realize how much skill it took to be able to do it, not in a simple way. Summary: Today in class we continued watching the movie. Reflection: We almost finished the movie, "Into the Wild."

Prompt: Chris and his sister Carine McCandless had a very close relationship, even when he struggled to connect with others. Write about a relationship in your life where you feel truly understood. Explain what makes that relationship strong and how it compares to the connection between Chris and Carine in Into the Wild.

No one really makes me feel understood. The only relationship that I feel understood, is my relationship with Jesus. What makes my relationship strong with Jesus is how I talk and pray with him everyday. Nothing really compares to my relationship with him but the connection we have compared to Chris and Carine is sympathetic and personal.  Summary: In class we read chapter 13 of "Into the Wild," and answered questions. Reflection: I finished the questions that were over chapter 13.

Prompt: Pick one of the connection based questions and answer it in your blog. Be sure to write out the question.

In your opinion, what builds trust in a relationship, and what can damage it? (pg I build trust by keeping my word and showing up exactly when I say I will. It grows when I am honest and when I protect the feelings of the people I care about. I can break that trust if I break a promise or hide the truth. Being dishonest or unreliable makes the situation harder to keep a strong connection. Summary: In class we read chapter 12 of Into the Wild and did our vocabulary practice.  Reflection: I finished reading chapter 12 at home.

Prompt: Based on the first 40 minutes of the film and Chapters 1–11 of the book, does the visual version of Chris’s journey make his choices seem more justified or more reckless than the text does? Explain how the medium (film vs writing) shapes your perspective.

After watching a little bit of the film and reading "Into the Wild," his choices seemed more justified, we can see in the film that he has been going his own ways since he was small shaping how he loves to go for an adventure and doesn't want to go to college. They both shape the way I look at Chris differently from how much he loves being independent in the wild to how much he loves nature. Both the film and book express it differently seeing him as a more reasonable person for burning his valuables and starting a new life away from his family and friends.  Summary: In class we watched a little bit of the movie and answered questions on writable.  Reflection: I finished all the questions on writable except number 3.

Prompt: Think about a moment when your understanding of your family changed as you got older. How did that shift impact your perspective, and how does that connect to Chris’s realization about his parents in Chapter 11?

A moment when my understanding of my family changed was when I started growing up and realizing that the things they do for me are just helping me. This shift impacted the way I saw things and did things without realizing why I do it. It made me realize how important that shift in my maturity grew. This connects to Chris's realization of his parents just trying to help him have a good future but instead Chris wants something different.  Summary: Today in class we read chapter 11 and answered questions.  Reflection: I took the sat this day for make ups, but after I finished my work for Mr. Rease.

Prompt: Reflect on your reading of Into the Wild chapters 1–10. Which chapter stood out to you the most, and why? In your response, explain what specifically made this chapter meaningful, interesting, or impactful. You may consider elements such as McCandless’s actions, a key event, a theme, or Krakauer’s storytelling.

The chapter that stood out the most to me is the chapter where he worked in McDonald's and where he met up with his close friends again. I don't remember the name of the chapter but it was where he met with 2 people who drove him to places dropping him off. In this chapter he helped a women with her stand at a market. During this chapter McCandless was sharing his stories of his journey to people who came towards the stand. Summary: Today we took our assessment on the book "Into The Wild." Reflection: I finished taking my test and blog post.

Prompt: Chris McCandless rejects a traditional path of success and instead defines success on his own terms through freedom, experience, and personal meaning. Reflect on what success means to you at your current stage in life. In the response, explain how success is currently defined (grades, college acceptance, achievements, happiness, etc.) and where those ideas come from. Then, consider whether that definition truly reflects personal values or if it is shaped by expectations from family, school, or society.

Success right now feels like it is all about my grades and getting through junior year. These ideas mostly come from my teachers and parents because they talk about my future a lot. But I also think success is about being a good person and helping others. My own values are about my character and who I am and what I want to do. Being happy doesn't mean just completing all my assignments, being happy means to do what I love and go home doing other things beside school work. Summary: In class we read chapter 9 and 10. Reflection: I have to finish reading chapter 10 and answering the questions that come along with it.

Prompt: Chris chooses independence over relationships. When have you chosen to be on your own instead of relying on others? What happened, and would you make the same choice again?

I have a tendency to be independent when completing my schoolwork. For example like yesterday when I was completing my periodic table assignment and I was struggling because I wasn't there in class that day instead of asking my friends or family to help me I was able to go and find videos online to help me understand the material. Then I was able to understand the practice problems so I wouldn't fall behind in the class. Yes I would make the same choice again because it helps me become a better student.  Summary: In class we read chapter 10 of "Into the Wild." Reflection: I am going to finish reading the book.

Prompt: Choose a vocabulary word from Lesson 10 that resonates with you personally. Write a blog post explaining why this word is significant to you, including any personal memories or experiences that link you to the word.

The vocabulary word I choose from lesson 10 is luminous. I chose this word because it's the light of the world that shines so brightly. This word is significant to me because I love the sun and everything that shines throughout it. The word itself is also very unique and the way its spelled is very easy to remember. Whenever I see this word it reminds me of the light that the Lord brings to us.  Summary: In class we worked on vocabulary lesson 10. Reflection: I finished my vocabulary review and practice questions.

Prompt: For most of you, yesterday you took the SAT. If you did not, you will take it before you leave high school. What is your desired SAT score? Identify your top three colleges and explain why each school appeals to you.

Yesterday I did not take the sat because of computer internet reasons. My desired sat score is a range between 1200-1300. My desired collages I'm looking forward to attending is UGA or GSU. I'm going for an education major, so those are the collages that meet my standards. I have not decided which one, but I'm just ready to take my sat to see what I get. Summary: In class we read chapter 7 of, "Into The WIld," and answered questions along with it.  Reflection: I finished reading chapter 7 of the book and answered all the questions.

Prompt: Twice a year we adjust our clocks for daylight saving time, but the change can affect our sleep, energy, and daily routines. Now that we have sprung forward; reflect on how this time change impacts you personally. Do you find it easy or difficult to adjust your schedule? Explain how the time change affects your mood, productivity, or daily habits.

When we spring forward, it is hard to adjust my schedule because I lose an hour of sleep and feel very tired. Since it stays light outside much later, I want to keep playing instead of going to bed on time. This change affects my mood by making me feel a bit grumpy and less productive during the first few days of school. Summary: In class today we read chapter 6 individually. Reflection: I finished reading chapter 6 of "Into The Wild."

Prompt: In Chapter 5 of Into the Wild, McCandless is strongly influenced by writers like Jack London, whose stories shape the way he thinks about adventure and wilderness. Has a book, song, musician, or artist ever influenced the way you think about life, goals, or the world around you? Identify the specific book, song, musician, or artist and explain how their ideas or message affected your thinking.

I don't really have a book, music artist, or song that influences me. I just stick on what I experience rather than how others experience it. I look on what I do in my everyday life and go from there. I learn from my lessons and mistakes and fix them. I try not to repeat the same mistakes but I never really looked up on anyone for my decisions. I'm more of my own things in my way of life.  Summary: Today in class Mr. Rease wasn't here today so we read on our own. Reflection: I finished reading chapter 5 of "Into The Wild."

Prompt: In Into the Wild, Christopher McCandless gives up many of his possessions in pursuit of freedom and meaningful experiences. If you had to simplify your life and keep only a few important possessions, what would you keep and why? What would be hardest to leave behind?

Gemini said I would choose to keep my favorite books and my stuffed animal because they provide both comfort and room to grow. I am leaving my old journal behind because I want to stop focusing on the past and start looking toward the future. By holding onto these specific things, I feel ready to move forward with a clear mind and a happy heart. Summary: In class we finished answering questions for chapter 2 and 3 of the book we are reading. Reflection: I finished the questions and I have to work on reading chapter 4 on writable.

Prompt: People sometimes feel the need to step away from their normal routines or environments in order to better understand themselves. Describe a time when you needed distance from a situation, place, or group of people in order to think more clearly or gain perspective. What did that experience teach you about yourself?

When I felt overwhelmed by my big math project or other homework, I decided to take a break and play outside for a little while. Being away from my desk helped my brain relax and stop feeling so frustrated. When I came back, I realized that I actually knew how to solve the problems all along; I just needed a clear head to see it. Summary: In class we read chapter 1 and answered questions. Reflection: I finished answering my questions about chapter 1.

Prompt: After reading Chapter 1 of Into the Wild, consider your first impression of Christopher McCandless. Based solely on the events and details presented in this opening chapter, do you believe McCandless truly understood the risks he was taking when he entered the Alaskan wilderness? Why or why not?

We weren't able to read chapter one in class today;even though its a short chapter, we didn't have time. Instead we went over the introduction of the book. Knowing what hiking means, what you have to bring, and just being ready for it. We went over a presentation about what they book would be about and that it's over a real story. Summary: In class we went over an introduction of the book. Reflection: We wrote on our paper what supplies we would need to bring for hiking.

Prompt: Today you worked on creating your Vocabulary Digital Cards in Adobe Express. In one well-developed paragraph, reflect on the assignment by explaining which vocabulary word was easiest for you to understand, which word was most challenging, and how creating your own sentence and selecting an image helped strengthen your understanding of the vocabulary. Use specific examples from your work.

The easiest word for me to understand was bumpkin because it sounds like "pumpkin" – which is a simple and plain object. The most challenging word was indecorous because it is just a hard word to remember. For my slideshow, I wrote: "Miles says that he was soporific on Mia – saying that when she woke up she was even more tired than she had already been." Using my own sentences and picking images helped me because it made the definitions stick in my head. Summary: In class we worked on a slideshow about unit 9 Vocab words. Reflection: I finished my slideshow and blog post.
