Prompt: As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

The thing I enjoyed most about this class is our group work. Like how we do assignments together and participate together. The thing I found the most engaging is reading stories. Not as a group but any story I read individually. I connected the most with writing because I love writing and putting my thoughts out there. One thing that I think should be improved would be when we read I rather someone on the screen read then our classmates reading. I can't really focus when I read to people or when multiple people read out loud.

Prompt: Many holidays center around traditions. Describe one tradition that is important to you or your family and explain why it still matters (or why it no longer does).

One tradition that we still do in my family is that when it gets to the time of Lunar New Year we get lucky money and we dress our traditional dress. We continue to do this because we are from Vietnam and it matters to us to celebrate every year. Most of the times it happens around September or February. When it comes to that time of the year I really enjoy it the most.

Prompt: How have the holidays changed as you have grown older? Compare your experiences of the holidays during childhood with how you experience them now, focusing on shifts in perspective, responsibilities, or emotional meaning.

When I was small I experienced Easter as picking up eggs and getting candy from churches in the fresh air in the morning. It was lovely and so much fun as a kid. Now days kids don't need to do that now days their parents buy candy for them in a bag and they don't need to go out and run. The happiness of finding eggs and opening them for a surprise of who knows what candy you get is now gone.  Summary: Today in class we worked on our vocab.  Reflection: I finished my vocab and practice.

Prompt: Write about something you’ve outgrown but still miss.

Something I have outgrown but still miss is being able to still have free time in High School, like in Elementary you have recess. I am a teenager now but I still miss those good old days. I remembered how you don't have to do a lot of work in Elementary, now we have tons of work. I have grown up but I still miss those good old times.  Summary: In class we took Illuminate. Reflection: I finished my Illuminate and finished my blog post.

Prompt: Write about something that you can't stop thinking about.

Something I can't stop thinking about everyday is tests, quizzes, and homework. It is something I think about almost everyday. I have to finish it, as soon as I get homework I do it so I don't have to do it later. It stays in my mind until I do it. I have that habit but, its a good thing to me so I finish work on time and early. Summary: Today we just went to the library for our classes next year. Reflection: I chose my classes with my counselor.

Cultural Identity Mask

This is my mask. Summary: Today in class we presented our masks. Reflection: I finished my presentation.

Prompt: Write about the best gift you have received.

The best gift I received would be these LOL, surprise toys. I love unboxing things and opening them to get something special. Something I have no idea about. They are so cute and you can play with them and mix and match their clothing. It was so fun you can decide what they wear. There are other dolls too you can get and unbox each LOL is different depending on the themes they have. Every season the theme is super unique and fun! Not that I feel like I am too old for all of this but still, anyone can be a kid and it brings you back to the old days. Summary: Today in class we did vocab.  Reflection: I finished my blog post and vocab practice.

Prompt: After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

One moment from the clip that stood out to me is when she took off her mask and everyone was looking at her like she is a monster or just because she is different. I want the mask to reveal that I am an Asian-American. I am Asian, but not just any Asian, but I am Vietnamese. I want my mask to show that I am not Korean, Chinese, or Japan, I am Vietnamese. The film connects to the struggle of the poem and the mask highlighting the pressure of being different and how you'd have to look different on the outside but show yourself, who you are inside.  Summary: We read and analyzed the poem. Reflection: I finished my blog post and I am working on my mask.

Prompt: In “I, Too,” the speaker expresses pride in his identity and his rightful place in America. Reflect on your own life: What aspect of your cultural identity are you most proud of, and why?

When it comes to my culture identity I am most proud of being an Asian. Not just any Asian but Vietnamese. When people think of Asian people they only think of Korea, China, and Japan. But what about the rest? Why must a small country not be known to those around us? We look the same but in dept we are different. We are not the same, but I'm proud to be rewarded as Asia's most popular countries food. As if it comes to Pho everyone knows of.  Summary: In class today we did an assignment on our poem. Reflection: I finished my blog post and assignment.

Prompt: In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?

A time when I followed what people think is cool was to be coupled up with someone to seem like your not single and taken. So some couples/my friends had a boyfriend or talking stage and people thought it was cool. But to get into drama when your in the triangle is not cool, very exhausting. Later I didn't get into any relationships and took my time off. Summary: In class today we read a new poem  Reflection: I finished analyzing the poem.

Prompt: Discuss something meaningful or memorable you experienced over the break, or reflect on what you felt most thankful for during that time.

During Thanksgiving break I went to lots of Christmas light up events. It was so cold out but so fun. We ate lots of food and they lit up the trees when it got dark. Some places had Santa and some places gave out free food like marshmallow's and smores. I love going to these events because it brings me happiness and I'm thankful I have my family here to experience it with.    Summary: Today in class we worked on our new vocabulary.  Reflection: I finished my vocabulary practice.
